Talent Contests

A Youth Talent Contest will be held Monday, August 22nd in the Theater Building during the Beauty Pageant. All contestants should arrive by 7:00 p.m. All contestants will be eligible to compete in the North Central Arkansas District Fair Talent Contest in September and the winner of each category will represent Fulton County at the Arkansas State Fair Youth Talent Contest in October in Little Rock unless they are a winner in the district talent contest. If they win the district contest, the 2nd place winner in that category will be eligible to enter the state contest.

Rules

1. Official age limits are from ten to twenty, inclusive. Contestants age 5-9 may compete but they will not be eligible to enter district and state competitions. They will be judged in a separate category and will not compete against older contestants.

2. Contestants must not be or never have been married or have had children. Contestants must be residents of Fulton County or attend an academic school in Fulton County. Contestants may only enter one county fair talent contest in a calendar year.

3. No one contestant will be permitted to enter in more than one class except if the second category is with a group of five or more.

4. Instrumentalists should bring their own instruments. There will not be a piano available. If an accompanist is required, contestants must make their own arrangements. If the act requires a tape player, contestant must provide their own tape. The tape should identified with the name of the contestant and song and have only one track on it and should be cued and ready to play and given to the sound person upon arrival. It is recommended that a second tape be available in case of an emergency.

5. All talent competition numbers must not be more than 3.5 minutes in length. Dress is optional and contestants are free to choose what they desire to wear while performing. Any inappropriate lyrics of a song in the vocal and variety categories or inappropriate moves in the dance and variety categories will result in immediate disqualification. The contest directors have the right to interrupt a performance if it is not deemed suitable for the Youth Talent Competition.

6. Categories are: Vocal Solo, Vocal Group, Dance Solo, Dance Group, Instrumental Solo and Variety. Variety acts cannot have more than 12 people. Acts in which multiple talents are displayed should be in the Variety Category Acts that qualify for the Variety Category are song and dance, vocal and live instrumental, lip sync, pantomimes, impersonations, skits, juggling, ventriloquism, magic, gymnastics (be sure to check stage dimensions), karate, cheerleading, or other talent that does not fit in the other categories.

7. Rosettes and ribbons will be awarded to the winners in each category plus a $10 cash award. The Sweepstakes winner will receive an additional $25.00 cash award.

8. All contestants must sign the “Permission to Publish on the World Wide Web.” On the bottom of the entry form. If under age 18, parents must sign.

9. An entry fee of $10.00 will be charged for each contestant. This fee must be received by the Fulton County Fair with the entry form. Contestants can mail the application and the entry fee to the Fulton County Fair Association. Post Office Box 910, Salem, AR 72576 or leaving it at one of the business locations listed below. Deadline for entry is August 12, 2011.
