Changes Coming for the 2010 Fulton County Fair…….
Several changes are coming for Fulton County Fair. The fair will
expand to a 6-day fair and will be held August 9-14, 2010. All
entries in the Creative Arts (Family Living) Department will be
entered, checked-in and judged before the fair opens. Also new
for 2010 is Online Entries. Exhibitors will have
the option of entering their exhibits online or by completing a
paper entry form. Check the Creative Arts information on the
website for more information on entering exhibits and a listing
of departments, divisions, and classes for entries.
Livestock check-in times will remain the same as they have in
the past---Wednesday, August 11h will be check-in day for all
livestock including poultry and rabbits.
The fair will open on Monday, August 9th with the Young Miss and
Miss Fulton County Beauty Pageants and the Talent Contest. Other
pageants will be held on Tuesday and Thursday nights.
New events for 2010 include a ACA Rodeo on Wednesday night and
Junior Bull Riding on Thursday night.
Fulton County Fair Schedules Summer Demolition Derby
The Summer Demolition Derby will be held Saturday, June 5 at the
Fulton County Fairgrounds Arena in Salem, Arkansas. The derby is
sponsored by Bishop Dozing, Hill’s Auto Sales, and Viola
Hardware and will start at 8:00 p.m. There will be $1800 added
prize money for the event.
This will be a Stock Derby and it is important that participants
get a copy of the rules. No welding on cars will be allowed.

Danny and Barbara Perryman and Judy Ochoa are some of the 158
volunteers who helped with Fulton County Fair events in 2009.
Fulton County Fair Honors 2009 Volunteers……..
The Fulton County Fair Board of Directors honored the 158
volunteers who donated time to the Fulton County Fair in 2009
with a dinner on November 17th the Hickinbotham-Miller Building.
MaLinda Coffman and Shirley Black presented special awards for
the family living department to High Point Award Winners –
Brooklyn Abney for the youth and junior exhibitors and Gail
Plumlee for the adult division. Kelsey Abney received the
Horticulture Award for having the most entries for her 4-H
gardening project. The Kountry Kids 4-H Club was named the High
Point Junior Club and the Fulton County Master Gardeners won the
High Point Open Club award.
Brad McGinley and Heath Shrable gave out the Livestock Herdsman
awards. Winners were: Dairy B Dalina Perkey, Beef B Amber
Taylor, Sheep B McKenzie and Wendi Martin; Goats – Kallie and
Maddie Carr; Swine B Savannah Brown; Rabbits – Wesley Perryman;
and Poultry – Cameron Shaver.
Betty Roork made the announcement that the Roork family and the
Fulton County Fair Board had a new award this year. The Don
Crawford Award will honor long-time fair board member Don
Crawford, who died in December of 2008. The first Don Crawford
Award was presented to Austin Perkey by Crawford’s wife Imogene
and daughters Kathy Grissom and Konnie Coleman.
Joseph Roper was named a Fulton County Fair Junior Ambassador in
recognition for his work with the Fulton County Fair. To be
eligible for a Junior Ambassador, youth need to actively
involved in the Fulton County Fair as an exhibitor, be a leader
for other junior and youth exhibitors, and be willing to help
with fair events and activities during the fair.
The awards program ended with Fair Manager Carolyn Lewis and
President Michael Barnett recognizing State Representative
Curren Everett for all that he has done for the Fulton County
Fair during his years as Fulton County Judge and as a member of
the Arkansas Legislature. A new sign was unveiled naming the
livestock show barn the Everett Show Arena.

Futon County Fair Receives Department of Rural Services Grant……

Fulton County Officials were presented with a $3, 6ll.00 grant
to renovate the concession stand during an awards ceremony at
the Arkansas State Capitol in Little Rock on November 10, 2009.
The grant was presented to Fulton County Fair Manager Carolyn
Lewis by Governor Mike Beebe. Others attending the awards
ceremony from Fulton County were County Judge Charles Willett,
Fair Board Member Noble Lewis, and State Representative Curren
Everett.
The Fulton County Fair Association was presented with a County
Fair Building Program grant through the Arkansas Department of
Rural Services. The presentation was made at an awards ceremony
at the Arkansas State Capitol by Governor Mike Beebe.
Fair officials report that the grant will be used to renovate
the concession stand to make it more energy efficient.
Insulation will be added in the ceiling and a new washable
ceiling will be installed. Additional electrical outlets will be
added and cabinets will be installed to give more work space. In
addition the interior of the concession stand will be painted.
The Fulton County Fair concession stand is run by volunteers
during fair events and all profits are used for the upkeep of
the fair buildings and grounds and to pay expenses incurred
during the county fair.
AFMA Annual Meeting Held……..
The Sixty-Third Annual Convention of the Arkansas Fair Managers
Association was held in Hot Springs January 14-16, 2010. Noble
Lewis was Fulton County’s voting delegate to the convention.
Others from the county attending were: Carolyn Lewis, Sam and
Betty Roork, Jimalee Thomas, Margaret Roberts, Dennis and
Bridgett Reynolds, Dixie Harris and Joan Hammond.
The convention features workshops and seminars for fairs and is
an excellent opportunity to exchange ideas for improving fairs
in Arkansas. A trade show, hosted by associate members, provides
fair managers with an opportunity to see new products and
services available for fairs.
Two board members were elected for 5-year terms on the AFMA
board of directors. New board members are Don Jones from the
Three County Fair (Woodruff, Jackson and Cross counties) and
Terry Anders, Jr. of Calhoun County Fair.
