Family Living Exhibit
Rules

1.
There will be 3 divisions for the
Family Living department : Youth – age 12 and under; Junior –
age 13 – 18; and adult – 19 and over.
2.
The article must be made by the
person exhibiting it.
3.
No article previously exhibited at
the Fulton County Fair or any other county fair may be entered.
Exhibits may be entered in only one county fair.
4.
Only one item in each class may be entered by each individual.
5.
Soiled and damaged articles will
not be accepted.
6.
All exhibits will be judged on the
merit system and will receive Blue, Red, and White ribbons. Blue
ribbons will be worth 3 points, red ribbons 2 points, and white
ribbons 1 point unless otherwise indicated. Champion awards will
be given in each department as indicated for youth, juniors and
seniors. Cash awards will be awarded for points earned. No cash
awards will be given for the Champion awards.
7.
The individual earning the most
points in the adult, junior and youth departments will be
awarded a $50.00 Savings Bond sponsored by the Fulton County
Extension Homemakers Council and by the Fulton County Fair
Association. In addition, a special cash award will be given to
the club or organization in the junior/youth and adult divisions
whose members have the most points. Club membership should be
designated when the exhibitor receives exhibitor number. Members
may only designate one club.

APIARY

Beekeepers are encouraged to exhibit honey. All exhibits must be
in clean quart jars with rust-free lids. Comb honey should be in
wide mouth jars. Awards are B - 3 points, R - 2 points, and W- 1
point. A Champion Rosette will be presented to the best Apiary
exhibit.

Adult artwork must be framed and wired for hanging. No sawtooth
hangers will be accepted.
Youth and Junior Art will be accepted in frames with
wires for hanging or mounted on poster board with wire or heavy
cord for hanging. No taped or stapled hangers will be
accepted. Holes should be punched in top of poster board for
wire or cord. Youth and junior art that wins a Champion rosette
cannot go to the state fair unless it is framed and wired for
hanging.
Champion rosettes will be awarded for Oil or Acrylic, Drawings,
Water Color, other art work and Creative Writing.
Clothesline Art Rules: (1) Only one entry per exhibitor
in clothesline art; (2) Work must be original; (3) All
clothesline art must be on 8 2 x 11-inch paper. Art can be
crayon, water color, tempera, pencil or other medium; (4) Art
work should have name, age, grade in school and teachers name on
front and in lower right hand corner. Labels will be
provided by the Fair Association.
Creative Writing Rules: All work must be original and
should be legibly handwritten or typed on 8 2 x 11-inch white
paper with a 1-inch margin on all sides. Attach paper to 11 x
14-inch poster board (any color). All entries must be received
by July 31 and will be judged prior to the opening of the
fair. Mail entries to FCFA, Post Office Box 910, Salem, AR 72576
or leave at County Extension Office. Entries will receive
3-2-1pts. Three champion rosettes will be presented to the best
entry for Students K-6, Students 7-12, and Adult. Short stories
should have a maximum of 100 words and a maximum of 750 words

2008 Wilton Award Guidelines

Wilton Enterprises is pleased to help support the Fulton County
Fair in the Decorated Cakes Division. Wilton "Best of Class"
awards are offered for winning cakes with some type of bag and
tip or rolled fondant cake decorating.
"Best of Class" awards will awarded for the Youth and Junior
division and for the Open (adult) division. of Class" award is
available for each division, adult or junior.
"Best of Class" winners may choose one of the following awards:
• Gifts from the kitchen (The newest Wilton publication)
• Cupcake Fun! Book
• Cake Decorating Basics (DVD)
Wilton will also award one current Wilton Yearbook of Cake
Decorating for each 1st prize winner in all cake decorating
categories. Only five Yearbooks will be awarded to junior
division and five Yearbooks to adult division.

FOOD PRESERVATION

• All canned food must be in standard pink or quart jars which
are manufactured for canning. Jams, jellies, and preserves will
be accepted in jelly or half-pint jars. Jars must be sealed with
flats/rings and no paraffin used. Jars should be free of lime
deposits (white film). To remove deposits moisten a cloth with
vinegar and wipe clean.
• Food must be preserved after July 31, 2007.
• If food coloring is used, recipe must be submitted with
exhibit on an index card.
• All exhibits will receive 3-2-1 points. Six Champion Rosettes
will be awarded to the best exhibit in Vegetables, Fruits,
Pickles & Relishes, Sweet Spreads, Meat & Fish, and Dehydrated
Foods. No cash premiums will be awarded for the Ball® Fresh
Preserving™ Award (Division 32A).

Exhibitors must be non-professional. Photographs must be 5” x 7”
or 8” x 10” and must be matted or mounted on poster board. The
5” x 7” photo must be matted or mounted on 8” x 10” board and 8”
x 10” photos must be matted or mounted on 11” x 14” mat or heavy
poster board. (Photos will not be accepted on heavy paper.) To
be considered for Best of Show, the photo must be an 8’ x 10”
matted with a 11” x 14” board. Framed photos will not be
accepted. All photos must be made after July 31, 2007.
The same photo cannot be entered in both the black and white
division and the color division.

(1) All field crop and horticulture exhibits must be produced in
2008 by the exhibitor, (2) One entry per class or variety, (3)
Only exhibits with the designated number of items will be
accepted, (4) Judges decision is final.
All classes will earn points, Blue – 3; Red – 2; and White – 1.
Three Champion rosettes will be awarded to the best exhibit in
Field Crops, Horticulture, Heirloom Vegetables, and Wildlife
Habitat for youth, junior and open exhibitors.
Special awards: A $50 Savings Bond will be presented to
the High Point Exhibitor in the 4-H Gardening Project. Only
members of the 4-H Gardening Project will be eligible for this
award. A $15 gift certificate will be awarded to the youth or
junior exhibitor who has the most exhibits by Salem Feed
and a $15 gift certificate will be awarded to the adult (open)
exhibitor who has the most exhibits by Blackjack Supply.
Master Gardener Award: The Fulton County Master Gardeners
will award a rosette to the Best Overall Horticulture Exhibit in
the adult division and in the youth and junior division.

EDUCATIONAL EXHIBITS

Educational exhibits are open to any Fulton County civic clubs
(4-H, EHC, Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, etc.) and to school
classrooms. Reserve space by July 27 by calling 895-3301 or
e-mail mcoffman@uaex.edu. Points will be awarded as
follows: Blue – 30; Red – 20; and White - 10. A Grand Champion
Rosette will be presented to the overall winner in the Junior
and Senior divisions.
Each booth will be 4 feet wide and 4 feet deep. The exhibitor
must furnish their own table or stand and backdrop for the
exhibit.

SPECIAL CONTESTS
Tabloid Cover Art Contest
The Fulton County Fair
Association will conduct an art contest to design the front
cover of the fair tabloid for the 2008 fair. A $50 savings bond
will be awarded to the winner of the contest and all entries
will be entered in the Fulton County Fair August 5-9 and the
North Central Arkansas District Fair in September. The rules for
the art contest are:
1. Students in grades 4th, 5th and 6th in the Salem, Mammoth
Spring and Viola schools and home school students residing in
Fulton County are eligible to enter.
2. Entries should be submitted on an 8 ½ x 10 inch paper and
should be vertical on the paper. The 8 ½ x 11 inch paper should
be mounted on a poster board no larger than 11 x 14 inch (for
display).
3. Art work should be in black ink.
4. Art work should have a county fair theme.
5. Entry deadline is May 31, 2008. Entries will be accepted at
the Fulton County Cooperative Extension Service office in Salem
or they can be mailed to Fulton County Fair Association, Post
Office Box 910, Salem, AR 72576.
