Creative Arts/Family Living Exhibit Rules

1. All exhibitors should pre-enter their exhibits by completing a paper Entry Form or entering online. Entries will be accepted online from June 1 to August 1, 2010. Exhibits must be checked in prior to the opening of the fair. Check-in for all exhibits except Flowers, Floral Arrangements, Field Crops and Horticulture, and Baked Items are:

Friday, August 6th from 12:00 noon to 6:00 p.m.
Saturday, August 7th from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.


Check-in time for Flowers, Floral Arrangements, Field Crops and Horticulture and Baked Products is Monday, August 9th from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m.


2. There will be 3 divisions for the Family Living department : Youth – age 12 and under; Junior – age 13 – 18; and adult – 19 and over.

3. The article must be made by the person exhibiting it.

4. No article previously exhibited at the Fulton County Fair or any other county fair may be entered. Exhibits may be entered in only one county fair.

5. Only one item per class may be entered by each individual.

6. Soiled and damaged articles will not be accepted.

7. All exhibits will be judged on the Danish system (unless noted otherwise) and will receive Blue, Red, and White ribbons. Blue ribbons will be worth 3 points, red ribbons 2 points, and white ribbons 1 point unless otherwise indicated. Champion awards will be given in each department as indicated for youth, juniors and seniors. Cash awards will be awarded for points earned. No cash awards will be given for the Champion awards.

8. The individual earning the most points in the adult and junior or youth departments will be awarded a $50.00 Savings Bond sponsored by the Fulton County Extension Homemakers Council and by the Southfork Antique Gallery. In addition, a special cash award will be given to the club or organization in the junior/youth and adult divisions whose members have the most points. Club membership should be designated on Entry Form. Members may only designate one club.

Dept 1 - Apiary

Beekeepers are encouraged to exhibit honey. All exhibits must be in clean quart jars with rust-free lids. Comb honey should be in wide mouth jars. Awards are B - 3 points, R - 2 points, and W- 1 point. A Champion Rosette will be presented to the best Apiary exhibit.

Dept 2 - Art
Superintendents B Glenda Plumlee, Shirley Turner, and Luann Stone 

Adult artwork must be framed and wired properly for hanging (Attach wire with eye hooks on each side of frame.)  No sawtooth hangers will be accepted. Youth and Junior Art will be accepted in frames with wires for hanging or mounted on poster board with holes punched in top and wire or heavy cord used for hanging. No taped or stapled hangers will be accepted.

To be considered for a Best of Show Award, youth and junior art must be framed and wired for hanging!

Champion rosettes will be awarded for each division with the exception of Div. 27: Clothesline Art.

Div. 27 - Clothesline Art Rules: (1) Only one entry per exhibitor in clothesline art; (2) Work must be original; (3) All clothesline art must be on 8 2 x 11-inch paper. Art can be crayon, water color, tempera, pencil or other medium; (4) Art work should have name, age, grade in school on front and in lower right hand corner.

Div. 28 - Creative Writing Rules: All work must be original and should be legibly handwritten or typed on 8 2 x 11-inch white paper with a 1-inch margin on all sides. Attach paper to 11 x 14-inch poster board (any color). Entries will receive 3-2-1 pts. Three champion rosettes will be presented to the best entry for Students K-6,  Students 7-12, and Adult. Short stories should have a minimum of 100 words and a maximum of 750 words

Dept 7 - Food Preservation

·         All canned food must be in standard jars which are manufactured for canning-Ball, Mason, Kerr, etc. Jams, jellies, and preserves and relishes and salsas will be accepted in jelly or half-pint jars. Jars must be sealed  with flats/rings and no paraffin used. Jars should be free of lime deposits (white film). To remove deposits moisten a cloth with vinegar and wipe clean.

·   Food must have been preserved after August 11, 2009.

·   If food coloring is used, recipe must be submitted with exhibit on an index card.

·   No Squash products allowed. (USDA does not recommend home canning of squash.) 

·    All exhibits will receive 3-2-1 points. Six Champion Rosettes will be awarded to the best exhibit in each division except Ball Fresh Preserving Awards. No cash premiums will be awarded for the Ball® Fresh Preserving™ Award (Division 77).

Jarden Home Brands makers of Ball ® and Kerr® FreshPreserving ™ Products is proud to recognize today’s fresh preserving (canning) enthusiasts, so First and Second Place Awards will be given to those individuals judged as the best in designated recipe categories.

A panel of judges will select the two best entries submitted by an adult for Fruit, Vegetable, Pickle, and Soft Spread categories. Entries must be preserved in Ball® or Ball® Collection Elite® Jars sealed with Ball® Lids and Bands or Ball® Collection Elite® Lids and Bands, or preserved in Kerr® Jars sealed with Kerr® Lids and Bands or Ball® Collection Elite® Lids and Bands. In addition, soft spread entries will be limited to recipes prepared using Ball® Pectin: Original, No Sugar Needed or Liquid. A proof of purchase for Ball® pectin must be provided at time of entry.

Entries designated First Place from each category will receive the following:
• Two (2) Five-Dollar ($5.00) Coupons for Ball® or Kerr® FreshPreserving™ Products and one (1) Three-Dollar ($3.00) Coupon for Ball® Simple Creations® Products.

Entries designated Second Place from each category will receive the following:

Dept 10 - Hobbies (Photography & Collections)

1. Exhibitors must be non-professional. A Professional is defined as anyone who derives 51% or more of their income from photography work.
1. Photographs must be 5 x 7 or 8 x 10 inch and matted or mounted on heavy poster board. Photos will not be accepted on heavy paper.
2. The 5” x 7” photo must be matted or mounted on 8” x 10” board and 8” x 10” photos must be matted or mounted on 11” x 14” mat or heavy poster board.
3. To be considered for Best of Show, the photo must be an 8’ x 10” matted with a 11” x 14” board.
4. Framed photos will not be accepted.
5. All photos must be made after August 11, 2009.
6. The same photo cannot be entered in the black and white division, sepia, and the color division.
7. Points will be awarded: Blue- 4, Red – 3, and White – 2.
8. Champion Rosettes will be awarded to the best exhibit in each division.

No identifying words may be submitted on the photo or the mat. It is recommended that dates not be on front of the photos.

Dept 11 - Hobbies (It's A Natural in Fulton County)

1. It’s a Natural is for items of interest from nature found only in Fulton County. Items should be as is and not made into a collage or another form, and not living.
2. Items should weigh less than 15 pounds.
3. State regulations will not allow Bird Nests or Eagle Feathers to be exhibited in this department.
4. A $10 cash award will be presented to the Best of Show exhibit for the Youth, Junior and Open divisions by the Fulton County Conservation District. All exhibits will receive Blue – 3 pts, Red - 2 pts, or White -1 pt ribbons.

Dept 16 - Educational Exhibits

Educational exhibits are open to any Fulton County civic club (4-H, EHC, Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, etc.) and to school classrooms. Reserve exhibit space by July 30, 2010. Call 895-3301 or e-mail mcoffman@uaex.edu. Points will be awarded as follows: Blue – 30; Red – 20; and White - 10. A Grand Champion Rosette will be presented to the overall winner in the Junior and Senior divisions.

Each booth will be 4 feet wide and 4 feet deep. The exhibitor must furnish their own table or stand and backdrop for the exhibit.
